Providing a brief overview of our A-Levels Media Studies coursework:

A-Level Media Studies is divided into 2 components:

-Component 3 - Advanced Portfolio

To interact with modern media technologies, candidates build on the abilities acquired in Component 1. Selecting from a variety of predetermined briefs, they create a media campaign using a combination of three media (video, print, and official social media page). Candidates will use a blog to document the planning, research, and creation of their work. Additionally, each candidate is required to provide a critical reflection that includes four mandatory questions. Their blog will also feature the finished works and critical reflection.

The task could be done by a team or an individual (the maximum group size is four candidates). Whether they have worked in a group or alone, candidates must present the evidence for evaluation individually. Candidates must be evaluated individually by centres. To enable the teacher to evaluate each candidate's participation in the group, each candidate's blog should explicitly state their own role in any group activity.

-Component 4 - Critical Perspectives

This is a written component that will be evaluated externally and covers two topics: media debates in Section A and media ecology in Section B. The examination lasts for two hours. Three questions must be answered by candidates. Each question in Section A is worth 15 marks, while each question in Section B is worth 30. The component is graded out of a possible 60.

Candidates should be familiar with the content described in the Skills and understanding common to all areas of the study section, and with the content described in the AS Level subject content and A Level subject content sections. They will need to support their responses with detailed reference to a range of contemporary media texts, in the

form of a series of case studies.
